3 justifications for signing up for an in-person retreat this year

Whether or not you spend your days caring for others, you likely missed the ability to be get out and about and be with like-minded people during the Pandemic Times. Now that things are opening—sloooowwwly—you’re probably getting notifications for events that are happening IRL (like my self-care saturday June 25, 2022 in Vermont). Lots of us appreciated the ability to be in community with other people via online technology over the last couple of years … so why should you bother traveling somewhere to experience something in person? I’ll tell you what I think:

  1. You won’t be distracted by your day-to-day obligations at home. It can be challenging for a caregiver to schedule time away from home, but if you have the resources and support to cover your responsibilities for a day or two, you can make the most of your precious downtime. When I set aside time to attend online trainings, I’m noticing the dust bunnies under the furniture, thinking about what to make for dinner, and trying to figure out how I’m going to juggle my schedule for the next few days. But if you can commit to being away from your daily life for a short time, your days will feel expansive. I always love the feeling of staying overnight somewhere else and thinking, “I don’t need to make my bed!” Just getting those five minutes back feels like a huge win.

  2. You’ll get to experience something new. Whether it’s fabulous people you haven’t yet met or places you can’t wait to tell your friends about, a day or weekend away from home means you’ll be presented with opportunities you never would have come across otherwise. The caregivers who attended my very first weekend retreat in 2019 made several meaningful connections over dinner Friday night—business suggestions were exchanged, healthcare resources were shared and social media handles were passed around. Many from this group are still in touch … and come back to my in-person events regularly to recreate those good feelings again and again.

  3. You’ll be able to work with your teacher in 3D. I‘ve been blown away by the level of connection my online membership provides. What a gift Zoom is! But nothing replaces being with like-minded people in person—a unique energy develops when we can share the same space at the same time. And imagine what it would feel like to be able to simply rest for an hour, reclining on your mat as your teacher provides you with just the right props to support your body, holding that space so you can feel as cared for as those you usually tend to.

I know it’s maybe been a while since you’ve been away, but if you feel ready to join us at Wild Trails Farm this summer, click here for all the details. As of this writing there are just four spots left June 25 at this new retreat location, and I’d love for you to be able to fill your cup so you can keep serving those you care for.
